Blog #2 Ad Analysis

In this Absolut Vodka advertisement there is a woman in her living room that has opened a package and is trying to figure out how to put together all the different pieces of what would be the way her ideal man and what he would look like. This woman has chosen to have the abdominals of a "fit" African- American man, the right arm of a tatooed rock star, the left arm of a sweet and thoughtful man holding flowers, and the head of an inellegent man with glasses. This ad is appealing to the desire to fabricate your own spouse using your imagination according to the personality you would like him to have. It appeals to the desire to have the right and the power to either destroy or build your ideal man. The ads intended audience is women perferably those who are tired of waiting for their absolute man. The claim in this ad is that all women should have the man they want and not settle for whatever comes along, therefore saying that this Absolut Vodka is the perfect vodka, exactly to your liking and is not like any other vodka that happens to be at the store. This ad expects the audience to assume that this woman is in her living room and has just recieved the package she has been waiting for. The assumption is that she has just opened it and is reading the manual in order to build her spouse. The warrant is that by drinking Absolut Vodka your living in an absolute world and anything is possible. The evidence that supports my claims is all the different body parts of the ideal or absolute man that  woman has been wanting to build. This Absolut Vodka ad is very detailed and clever which attracts the audience and gets us to buy his product.

Spongebob VS. Avatar: the last airbender

I was nanning today as usual when johnny, the little ten year old boy, and i got in an arguement while we were watching cartoons. Johnny claims that the Avatar cartoon is the best cartoon ever invented, but I claim that Spongebob is by far the greatest cartoon. Both are shown on the Nickelodeon channel so they are both rated PG. The evidence Johnny uses to back up Avatar is that he nows some of his school teachers that are adults who even watch it which teach at Del Mar Heights school. He also says it is the most viewed cartoon between all 15 of his friends and 20 of his sisters friends as well. I looked up some reviews on the cartoon online and found that the popularity is huge. The number of views are increasing daily. Most seem to enjoy this cartoon because it shows contiuity. I back up Spongebob because its humorous, original, and anyone at any age can watch it. I also  looked up some reviews online and discovered that Spongebob has been the number 1 tv show for 5 years as of 2007. The warrant is that everyone likes Spongebob better than Avatar. Some appeals such as ethos is that Johnny has been watching cartoons all through his childhood and is more familiar with a wide variety of what cartoons are being played live everyday. A pathos is that Spongebob is a sweet loveable character that is humorous and steals your heart every time he laughs. The logos is that most kids at a younger age will like spongebob better because of its simplicity in context and kids at an older age like Johnny will perfer Avatar because it contains more of a mature context. A logical fallacy I used against Johnny was telling him that I know your wrong so I'm just going to ignore you. A weakness for Avatar is that it has a lot of violence. A weakness for Spongebob is that its context is very elementary and random. In my arguemet I failed to mentin tthe ethos, pathos, and logos which would probably had made my arguement stronger.
